A Shift in the Rate: Not an Added Cost
The Nobles Cooperative Electric Board of Directors approved a one-cent-per-kWh adjustment to our rate structure. While this may be described as a one-cent increase in the base rate, it is important to understand that this is not an additional one-cent cost to members.
Instead, one cent per kilowatt-hour that has been collected through the variable Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) will shift into the appropriate rate classes and become part of the base rate.
In other words, an existing cost is simply moving from one line on your electric bill to another.
Why make the change?
The change allows our rates to more accurately reflect the cooperative’s true cost of providing electricity and reduces the amount that needs to be collected through the variable PCA.
The bottom line: This restructuring results in no net cost increase from the one-cent shift itself. Members will simply see that penny reflected differently on their bill.
When will members see the change?
The new billing structure is effective September 1, 2026, for all rate classes and will first appear on bills members receive around October 15.
