Energy Alert: Help Us Reduce Peak Demand Today Nobles Cooperative Electric is asking members to help reduce electricity use today between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. There is no shortage of power. However, electricity demand is expected to be especially high this evening, which means the cost of purchasing power is higher than normal. To help reduce demand during this time, Nobles Cooperative Electric will also be activating our load control programs for participating generators, air conditioners, and peak shave water heaters. If possible, please delay the use of large electrical appliances until after 8:00 p.m. Small actions—such as waiting to run your dishwasher, clothes dryer, or other high-energy appliances—can help reduce peak demand and keep wholesale power costs lower for everyone. Behind the Scenes on a Hot Summer Night. Even when most of us are trying to stay cool indoors, our crews are out making sure the power keeps flowing. Line Superintendent Cody Hansen shared this photo of crews conducting thermal imaging inspections at one of our substations Wednesday evening. During periods of extreme heat, electrical equipment works harder as air conditioners, fans, and other summertime electrical use increase across our system. Thermal imaging helps our crews spot hot spots before they become bigger problems, allowing us to make repairs and reduce the risk of outages. It's all part of the proactive maintenance happening behind the scenes to help keep your power safe and reliable—even on the hottest days of the year.
