Spring weather has many of us thinking about cleaning up road ditches, fence lines, and fields. Controlled burns can be a helpful tool, but please remember to keep fire well away from electric utility poles. 🚫🔥 Do not let a controlled burn reach a power pole. Even if the outside looks fine, a pole can burn slowly from the inside out. That hidden damage can weaken the pole and create serious safety risks. Damage from fire can lead to power outages or even energized lines falling to the ground, which creates a dangerous situation for anyone nearby. If you’re planning a burn this spring: • Check weather and wind conditions before starting • Clear vegetation at least 4 feet around pole bases • Wet the base of nearby poles before burning A little preparation goes a long way in helping keep you, your neighbors, and our electric system safe.
