Let's Save Together

There are certain indisputable truths every Minnesotan accepts: winters are freezing, summers can be sweltering, and heating and cooling costs can be a major line item in our household budgets.

informed energy decisions.

Air Conditioning

Save Energy and Money with the Cycled Air Conditioning program

This load management program allows you to help reduce energy use when demand for energy is at its highest. Brief, periodic cycling of the central air conditioning system can reduce the demand for electricity during this time. That helps keep energy costs down.

How does it work?

When you sign up for the program, Nobles Cooperative Electric installs (at no cost to you) a special radio receiver on your central air conditioner.

Am I eligible to participate?

If you are an electric cooperative member with a central air conditioner, you are eligible to participate. Homeowners who have window air conditioners are currently not eligible.

Incentive?

Members who agree to connect their central air conditioner/heat pumps to Nobles Cooperative Electric's load management system qualify for a $6 credit per month for the billing cycles of June through August with a minimum usage of 400 kilowatt-hours per month.

Interruptible Generator Program

Storms or high winds can knock out your electric service, leaving you without power. A generator can help you avoid any loss or inconvenience resulting from an extensive power outage. An emergency source of power can be an essential part of any farm or business. A standby power generator is an excellent investment to prevent costly losses during local power failures.

By participating in the Interruptible Generator Program, members help reduce electricity during periods of peak demand. During times of peak demand, Nobles Cooperative Electric will interrupt your service and automatically switch load onto your generator back-up system. In return, members who participate receive a 1.1 cents credit on their kilowatt-hours each month.

Storage Water Heating

The Marathon water heater is one of the most efficient water heaters on the market today. Nobles Cooperative Electric determines the capacity of the water heater (either an 85 or 100 gallon size) for your particular application. Certain restrictions apply.

  • Long Life: The seamless, blow-molded polybutylene tank is impervious to rust and corrosion! Multiple layers of filament wound fiberglass give the tank unmatched strength. The tank is designed, built and backed by a strong warranty.
  • Durable: Recessed drain valve is out of the way of brooms and scrubbers. Tough molded outer shell resists dents and scratches. Bowl-shaped bottom allows more complete sediment draining.
  • Functional: Factory installed temperature and pressure relief valve for greater value and security. All plastic tank eliminates the need for an anode rod — preventing potential odor problems.
  • Affordable: Cost to members is $550 plus tax.

Electric Heat

Your home is your castle, as the saying goes. So you don't need uninvited guests such as cold drafts and chilly breezes. Nobles Cooperative Electric has several programs to save you money.

Space Heating

Consider a central off-peak storage furnace, room storage, slab storage heat or a combination of storage heating technology. Warming up cold basements, additions, three-season porches and other hard to heat areas is no problem with storage space heating. There are lots of different choices to consider that will blend in with your decor very nicely. With special rates, enjoy both comfort and energy savings.

All electric usage used by the system shall be submeterd and member will receive a 1.4 cents credit per kilowatt-hour. The controlled load shall be a minimum 7.5 kW with the exception of an electric heat pump.

Dual Fuel

How does Dual Fuel work?

An electric heating system is used as the primary heat source, supplemented on days of peak demand periods with an alternative source of heat such as oil, natural gas or LP gas. When the demand for electricity is high, the electric heat source is shut off, or controlled, and the member's supplemental heat provides the warmth needed.

Members pay only 6.9 cents versus 8.3 cents per kilowatt-hour (on metered electric heat usage). The controlled load shall be a minimum 7.5 kW with the exception of an electric heat pump and it must be an automatic, thermostatically controlled.

Some accepted electric heat sources:

  • Baseboard
  • Cove
  • Radiant
  • Slab
  • Electric boiler
  • Plenum
  • Air Source Heat Pump
  • Ground Source Heat Pump

To sign up, fill out the Load Management Agreement and we will be in contact with you to set up a time to install the required metering equipment.

Heat Pumps

Ground Source Heat Pump

Looking for the most energy-efficient heating and cooling system on the market today? A ground source heat pump can provide all of your home's space heating, air conditioning and water heating requirements in a single package at an operating cost that's less than even the most efficient gas furnace! Ground source heat pumps operate with 300 to 400 percent energy efficiency. With a ground source heat pump, you have several options to consider.

Because these systems use free heat available from the earth, they deliver $3-$4 worth of heat for every dollar of electricity they use in electrical energy. This kind of efficiency provides you with outstanding energy savings on your heating, cooling and hot water.

Air Source Heat Pumps

An Air Source Heat Pump is the best of both worlds, providing your cooling and heating needs. Consider an add-on heat pump in combination with a gas or oil furnace. The heat pump uses free heat available in the air to give you $2-$3 worth of heat for every dollar of electricity used. On very cold winter days your fossil fuel furnace will take over. On a dual fuel rate, heat pumps provide much lower annual heating and cooling bills than can be achieved by conventional combustion furnace/air conditioner combinations.
