Frequently Asked Questions
Why are rates going up?
- Both GRE and WAPA, our sources of power, have announced significant rate changes for 2025 aimed at funding essential infrastructure improvements and addressing changing energy demands. GRE's rates will increase by 8.5%, whereas WAPA's rates will rise by 4%.
- The GRE and WAPA rates have risen by $1 million in 2025, which is notably higher than the $200,000 we initially expected.
DID YOU KNOW?
Approximately 64% of our overall budget goes directly towards purchasing power from GRE and WAPA. This means that for every dollar you pay on your electric bill, roughly 64 cents goes towards costs we don't directly control.
When will Rates Increase?
Starting February 1, 2025, you'll see a small increase in your monthly service charge, a slight increase in the per kilowatt-hour energy charge, and for some members, a small increase in the demand charge. You will see the change in March billing cycle.
UNDERSTANDING RATE ADJUSTMENTS
The rate adjustment this year is a direct result of the increase in the "cost of power" from our suppliers. While we typically account for minor increases, this one was unexpectedly higher and is a trend affecting all power utilities nationwide in 2025.
We understand your concern about future increases. We are constantly evaluating costs and will communicate any changes with as much advance notice as possible. We are committed to transparent communication and will provide as much advance notice as possible for any future adjustments in the years ahead.
