Board Member Spotlight
Meet Gary Clarke, a dedicated member of your Nobles Cooperative Electric Board, representing District 3 in the eastern part of our service area! Gary and his wife, Aimee, live on an acreage outside of Fulda with their two children, Logan and Olivia. When he's not busy with his floor covering installation business, you'll likely find him volunteering at the Fulda Fire Department or within his community.
Gary's commitment to community service is evident in his 14 years with the fire department, where he's served as treasurer, captain and truck engineer. He's also a board member of their relief association.
Since being elected to the Nobles Cooperative Electric Board in 2019, Gary has been a valuable team member. "Serving on the electric cooperative board has been a tremendous learning opportunity," he shares. "We constantly learn and strive to operate the cooperative in the best interests of our members and we spend a lot of time each month discussing the future."
Gary explains that the board's responsibilities go beyond everyday operations: "Many of the decisions we make today will affect the cooperative 30 years down the line. We want to ensure we are making the best choices for our members." This includes making informed decisions about rates, infrastructure investments and long-term energy strategies, considering both current needs and the future of energy.
Gary has been particularly interested in learning about the complexities of the electrical grid and the pros and cons of renewable energy sources. "It's amazing how much energy and effort goes into making sure the lights come on when we flip the switch as a member," Gary reflects. "Before joining the board, I never fully thought about what it takes to get power from the grid to my home. It's a complex process involving dedicated people and careful planning, and it's certainly more involved than I ever imagined!"
He's also quick to praise the hard-working crew at Nobles Cooperative Electric: "We are truly fortunate to have such committed lineworkers. They live in our communities, take pride in their work and strive to do an excellent job. I can't thank them enough for their hard work and commitment to keeping our power on!"
