Employee Spotlight: Cody Hansen

Leadership On and Off the Line

When Cody Hansen joined Nobles Cooperative Electric as a Lineworker in May 2009, he embarked on a journey that has grown into nearly 16 years of dedicated service to our members and communities.

Today, Cody serves as Line Superintendent, overseeing line construction and maintenance projects, coordinating crews, managing safety protocols, and ensuring our electric system operates reliably through both routine work and storm response. His role demands technical expertise, steady leadership, and the ability to make thoughtful decisions in high-pressure situations—qualities he brings to the job every day.

“What I love about this job is that no two days are the same, and at the end of the day you know you’ve done something real for your neighbors,” Cody shares.

Originally from Madison, South Dakota, Cody attended Mitchell Technical College before beginning his career in linework. After starting at Nobles Cooperative Electric in 2009, he became the Metering/Mapping Coordinator in November 2015 and was promoted to Line Superintendent in February 2023. His growth within the cooperative reflects both his commitment to learning and his dedication to serving our membership.

Cody’s service extends beyond the cooperative as well. He proudly volunteers as a firefighter with the Slayton Fire Department, responding to emergencies and helping protect the same communities he powers each day. Whether restoring electricity after a storm or responding to a fire call, Cody approaches each responsibility with focus and a strong commitment to safety.

In recent years, Cody has also taken up running—and not just casually. What started as a way to stay active and clear his mind has grown into a serious passion for long-distance trail running. He recently traveled to Quinton, Oklahoma, to compete in the Outlaw 100 Trail Series 50-mile ultramarathon, where he finished first overall. Completing a 50-mile trail race requires months of training, mental toughness, and a willingness to push through some pretty rugged terrain—qualities that mirror the determination Cody brings to his work at the co-op.

“Running keeps me focused and gives me a little quiet time—which is great when you work in a world full of energized lines and busy schedules!” he says.

When he’s not on the job, logging miles on a trail, or responding to a fire call, Cody enjoys spending time with his wife, Amber, and their children, Lyra and Titan.

We are grateful for Cody’s leadership, service, and dedication both on and off the clock.

Thank you, Cody, for your continued commitment to Nobles Cooperative Electric and the communities we serve.
