National Co-op Month
Farms, Sustainable Collaborations, Committed Employees!
This October, as we celebrate National Cooperative Month, we want to highlight the essential partnership between agriculture and electric cooperatives. We recognize that agricultural families are indispensable, and electrification has profoundly transformed farming operations which continues to evolve today!
Electrification's Impact
Imagine a time when rural farms were shrouded in darkness, limiting productivity and hindering progress. The rise of electric cooperatives, spurred by the Rural Electrification Act of 1935, changed everything. Suddenly, farms were illuminated, machinery roared to life and possibilities expanded. Electric pumps, milking machines and refrigeration transformed agriculture, enabling farmers to thrive. Reliable, affordable electricity fueled economic development, improved living standards and created vibrant rural communities. Schools, hospitals and businesses flourished, thanks to the power of cooperation.
A Sustainable Future: Today's Partnership
Today, the bond between agriculture and electrical cooperatives remains strong. Farmers rely on electricity more than ever, and cooperatives are at the forefront of supporting agricultural innovation and sustainability. From investing in renewable energy projects to promoting energy efficiency, cooperatives are helping farmers reduce their environmental impact and build a resilient future. This month, in celebration of this successful partnership, we will feature one of our member businesses, Lingen Dairy, in a later post which embraces evolving energy opportunites and continuously seeks innovative solutions for its dairy and ice cream business.
Where would we be without our Linemen?
Let’s also take a moment to thank our linemen over the years. Envision a world devoid of electricity—no lighting, refrigeration, internet or modern conveniences we often take for granted. Thanks to the relentless dedication of linemen who brave the elements, day and night, to keep our power grid functioning. They work in sweltering heat, navigate through snowstorms to restore power during blizzards and respond to emergencies at all hours. Their work is physically demanding, often perilous and requires steadfast commitment. The expertise and dedication of our linemen are vital to the success of electric cooperatives and the quality of life we enjoy.
